Intro to Sāṁkhya Philosophy

led by Dr. Vigneswar Bhat

Yoga Philosophy is deeply rooted in ancient Sāṁkhya Philosophy as expressed in the sutras of the Tattva Samasa (considered to be the base text and foundation of yoga). Examining these sutras, where yoga philosophy is clearly laid out, enables the reader to deepen their understanding and the science behind the state of highest existence, called yoga. Sāṁkhya of sage Kapila is one of the six systems (darshans) of Indian philosophy. Samyak means balanced, kya means knowledge. In this course, we will be chanting the Tattva Samasa and will review the philosophical reflection.

This course sheds light on The Entire Human System Puruṣa and Prakṛti

Mantrapushpam Chanting

4 Weeks Course

Mantrapuspam – The flower of the Vedas

Traditionally this Vedic hymn is chanted at the end of a ceremony as a final offering with flowers. The essence of the Vedas can be experienced through this chant. Moving through the various elements that surround us; water, fire, wind, sun, moon, stars…

This mantra is from the Taittiriya Aranyakam of the Yajur Veda.

We will be going through the chant and learning it word by word, verse by verse following the rules of Vedic chanting. Understanding that this is only which is experienced and not translated therefore we will conclude the class with a discussion around the deeper ideas or concepts around this piece.
